The community of Marianna, AR, was facing significant public safety challenges that demanded a robust, modern solution. High-crime areas, specifically the South Pointe Apartment complex and the Happy Days Restaurant/convenience store, were experiencing a concerning frequency of fights and shootings, creating a climate of fear and instability. 

Beyond these specific hotspots, the police department recognized a critical need for broader surveillance coverage on main thoroughfares to aid in traffic monitoring and criminal investigations throughout the city. The overall objective was to move from reactive policing to proactive crime deterrence and faster incident response.

Project Deliverables

SkyCop designed a multi-layered, state-of-the-art security solution. This included four patented, pole-mounted camera enclosures strategically placed to cover key areas. Two of these systems were equipped with standard high-definition surveillance, while the other two featured integrated gunshot detection technology. This acoustic system pinpoints the direction of gunfire, immediately directs the associated Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera to the source, zooms in for visual confirmation, and alerts dispatch, all within seconds. 

At the South Pointe Apartment complex, a solar-powered License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera was installed at the exit to provide law enforcement with invaluable data for vehicle movement tracking and investigative support. The comprehensive deployment also included a mobile surveillance unit for flexible, temporary deployment.

Results

The implementation of this advanced system was met with immediate, positive reception from the community. Residents expressed genuine relief and happiness to see the systems being installed, feeling a renewed sense of security. Officers, too, were enthusiastic, recognizing the immediate value the cameras, LPR, and gunshot detection would bring to investigations and real-time incident management. The ability to automatically confirm and visually track the source of gun-related incidents transforms the police department’s ability to respond accurately and efficiently, making Marianna a safer place for everyone.
